Despite there is an increasing popularity of public transport in cities, some of its streets are still experiencing bottleneck congestion. There are two major areas which have to be concentrated to mitigate this issue and it would need a high level involvement.

One of the major reasons why city streets are overcrowded with vehicles is because of the fact that they accommodate most of the popular establishments. This can be educational institutions, job establishments, entertainment areas and the most crowd-pulling commercial establishments. The problems get worse when these get concentrated more to specific areas. Therefore, authorities are recommended to re-plan the city and avail all these facilities in the sub-urban areas. When this happens there would be less flow of population to the heart of the city, and thereby city-traffic can be made smoother.

The second factor behind the issue is the disproportionate population in accordance with the public transport facilities available.  In many cities, in which this problem persists, though there would be a significant volume of people who use the public transport services, there would be much more people who hardly make use of such services. The problem can be solved only when a collective population is transferred from place to place within a short span of time. Popular destinations should be therefore connected with high-speed metro rails or underground tubes. Simultaneously, vehicle access should be controlled in streets which suffer the worst crisis.

To conclude, it is clear that traffic is one of the major problems in many city streets with adequate public transport services and there are specific reasons for that. If authorities take initiatives to transform the town-planning and existing transport system more people friendly, the crisis can be mitigated well.
