Information technology is gaining more and popularity among the public as more and more people are accepting the newer modes of communication to interact with their close acquaintances. I feel this change is more positive in nature.

The two major merits of this transformation are its swiftness and sharpness in the communication process. In the past, the time taken to communicate was lengthy. The introduction of sophisticated communication systems has helped more people to communicate at a faster pace and they found it easy and convenient. For instance, now, an individual can connect with another at the farthest end of the world via internet services like Skype or Imo, which provide them the services like advanced voice clarity and high definition pictures or videos.

These sorts of changes are seen helping people to maintain closer relationships even when they are away from the real social circle. For example, a college WhatsApp or Facebook group helps people to keep their communications in between intact even after a couple of decades, irrespective of their locations. Similarly, it helps a family member to forget the feeling of home sickness, when they are away from his own family as a part of work or study.

However, this transformation is not free from criticism. The worst issue is privacy, which is evidenced by hacking of data and identity thefts, and a sizeable proportion of people are still vulnerable to it. Another issue is social media addiction, which interferes with the real, warm relations among the family members and close friends. This eventually makes the real social relationships fragile.

To conclude, though there are some concerns regarding this progress in the communication sector like privacy, it is widely seen as faster, sharper and convenient, and these are making it more popular.
