Considering the changed life-style of today, many suggest that either of the parents should be given financial aids by the state and be allowed to stay at home for baby-sitting. Even though this appears to be advantageous, it has some disadvantages too.
Turning to the positive side, when this is made practical, many parents can give the most appropriate care their children need. Many scientific researches have proven that parental presence is crucial till the child reaches the pre-school age to avoid emotional problems later in his/her life. In many cases, younger children would not get emotional attention when they are left in professional childcare systems. Moreover, parents have to spend a considerable proportion of their earnings in meeting the provision of baby-sitting. Finally, the state would be gifted with physically and mentally strong citizens if such a privilege is offered.
The suggestion is objected by critics because they feel it has some disadvantages on the parent who takes leave. This is because of a gap created in her career, which might affect her future performance or promotions. Governments would also have to compromise their economic growth, as a considerable proportion of productive population stay home, consuming the funds which could have been used in critical areas like healthcare or transport. Children too would find it difficult to separate their parents when the career has to be resumed.
In conclusion, it is clear that when young children and parents would become the primary beneficiaries of the system if it is implemented, the government is expected to feel more heat if this happens.
