MODEL ANSWER:

It is said that despite the recent positive changes in the sector of agriculture, many still face the issue of poverty in many parts of the world. There are two major causes for this, and the issue can be addressed effectively, if prompt measures are taken.

The prime reason behind this problem is the shrinkage of land for cultivation. Many parts of the world are becoming developed at an unprecedented pace, and this is done either by clearing forests or agricultural lands. This reduces the area of cultivation, and the ultimate result is food insecurity. The second reason is the imbalanced food supply across the world. To be precise, considering the fact that food grains are commercial supplies, most share of this would flow towards the affluent nations, which have a strong purchasing power. When these countries have surplus stocks, many underprivileged countries might get inadequate food supply.

Turning to the possible solutions, the first is to maintain the agricultural land intact by prohibiting any other activities there. For example, each government should have at least a third of its land devoted exclusively to agriculture. If this becomes real, with advanced agricultural technologies, a country can become independent in case of meeting its food demands. Imbalance in the food supply, the next crisis, can be tackled effectively by formulating laws to meet the minimum food demands across the globe by organizations like FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization). Services of charity organizations can be also commendable in supplying quality food to the underprivileged.

To conclude, reduction in the agricultural land and improper food supply contribute to food scarcity amidst of advanced agricultural developments. However, with appropriate actions by the respective authorities, the issues stemming from this can be mitigated.
