It is generally believed that exercise is good for children. Therefore, physical education and sports should be compulsory for all students at all schools. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience.
Write at least 250 words.
Owing to the benefits physical exercise and sport activities have on school students, there exists an opinion that they should be made mandatory at every school and for every student. However, I tend to say it should be encouraged instead of making it compulsory.
The prime reason behind my view is because of the time constraints. Most schools have a tightly packed academic curriculum, which can be hardly balanced with a regular exercise regimen or sport schedule. If physical education classes are made compulsory, many of the teachers would face problems with the insufficient time to complete their academic assignments. Students too face some difficulties in their learning pattern at school.
Another concern which I can highlight is the dissimilar interests of school students towards physical exercises or sport activities. To be precise, not all students are sporty and some are really keen in concentrating on their academic works or projects instead. Hence, it is unwise to compel them either to do exercise or to engage in physical exertion activities at school.
I admit that, at this important stage of development, the need of physical exercise is pivotal and one should remember a healthy mind can better cooperate with a healthy body. This does not necessarily mean that these activities should be forced on them.
To conclude, even though sport and related activities play a cardinal role in bringing up a healthy generation, I should say that it is better to boost them rather than making it mandatory at schools.
