A sizable proportion of people believe that genetics play an exclusive role in determining talents in sports or music, while it is often claimed that systematic training can mould a successful sportsperson or a good musician. The ensuing paragraphs are written as an attempt to decide which view is more rational.

As per the former view, many sportspersons and musicians are seen performing well just because they have innate abilities, while those who have no inherited qualities are underperformers. Many marathon runners from Kenya had not seen a professional coach until they were sent to a major international sports event. Another example is Ludwig van Beethoven, born in a musical family who became the greatest ever music composer. The talents they got by birth can be perceived as the real secret behind their success stories. However, it can be seen that even when a considerable amount of time and money is spent to train athletes or music students, very few turn out to be good performers.

The aforementioned argument is opposed by some, as they think a systematic and disciplined training can nurture these talents in any person. They focus on qualities such as professional teaching skills, perseverance and hard work backed up by sufficient resources. With the help of these, even a person who has no commendable sports or arts background can be trained to become competent performers. Many eminent sportspersons and musicians are being produced every year by professional training academies, and this can be seen as a pertinent example for this.

After analysing both views in details, though successful sportspersons and musicians can be gifted to the nation through professional training, it does not appear to be perfect. However, if a person with innate talents is trained in such a way, the result would be far better.
