Since man started a civilized life, he has been constantly trying to update his standard of living. Most people think that today’s generation is enjoying a superior quality of life compared to the past. I too think it is true almost to a full extent.

In the past, the definition of quality of life was not so broadened and it was just the standard of health, comfort and happiness a person enjoyed. There occurred tremendous developments like inventions from vaccines against deadly diseases and the introduction of computer technology in multiple fields. Comfortable travel, accommodation and new means of entertainments added colors to people’s life in the bygone centuries.

Since the dawn of this century, the pace and extent of technological developments have broadened the meaning of quality of life. Among the significant leaps in the quality of life in this 21st century, the most tangible  ones is the development of information technology which is evidenced by  the growth of social media and related platforms. One should understand the fact that within this short span of time, this has become an inevitable part of the modern life. The progresses in the fields of artificial intelligence, energy storage and medical science have definitely made the quality of life in this century better.  The emergence of self-driving cars, autonomous flying vehicles and robotic services are some among these.

I should admit that there exists a considerable proportion of desperate population who believes that these advancements make people idler, both physically and intellectually, and eventually declines the quality of life.

To conclude, albeit there are some criticisms regarding the progresses made in the standard of living in this century, I think it has enhanced the lives of the people to the next level.
