MODEL ANSWER:

It is common to see that more and more diseases are spread today across the world than in the past. There exists an opinion that preventative measures are more acceptable than either spending huge sum on the research activities regarding these ailments or treating these disorders. Though there are exceptional situations, I think in most cases, this is an acceptable idea.

Firstly, one should understand that each research activity requires a considerable proportion of manpower, time and money. The cost of each research is exorbitant, and some of the researches are even terminated because of this. Another serious problem the health sector faces today is the ever-increasing medical expense. It is common to see that even an established employee suffering economic crises in his life once he is treated in a multi-specialty hospital. Medical insurance packages are limited in many countries and this is another trouble. Procedures such as transplantation and plastic surgeries cost billions and this is a cause of worry for many .

Turning to the solutions, many suggest to be more vigilant in case of their health. They focus on preventative measures such as abstaining from bad habits (drinking and smoking),diet modifications and exercise programs. They think this can control terminal illnesses like kidney failure or even cancer. I too think if we align to this principle, we are most likely to be benefited.

I admit that even one adopts this policy, he is still at risk of newly emerging diseases like what we have recently seen in case of the pandemic: Covid-19.There are also questions regarding diseases caused due to chromosomal abnormalities. Yet, I think a stringent health discipline would work.

To conclude, though there are exceptional factors, I think it is better to be more aware of one’s own health, than spending money on treating diseases or investing in medical researches.
