Unlike the past, youngsters at present consider shopping as a popular leisure activity. This is most likely the result of the overall transformation in the pattern of shopping, and it appears to me mostly positive.

In the past, the leisure time of the youngsters usually included football, watching movies, and socializing. Most of them were not economically independent, and hence shopping was considered as a responsibility rather than a leisure activity. The post-industrial marketing experts soon understood that youngsters are potential targets, when compared to older population, who are more rational when it comes to shopping. Simultaneously, most modern youngsters started exploring easy methods to shop like paying in installments and availing credit facilities. Finally, shopping has transformed itself into a more interesting experience with numerous entertainments integrated to it.

When it comes to the evaluation of this particular change, I have to support it because it has opened new sorts of experiences to the youngsters. Whether it is online shopping or shopping at malls, the youth now have the privilege of exploring numerous options, which was very limited in the past. For example, more varieties of products are available now in the shops, offering unique features, exchange offers and discounts. With the advent of online shopping, shopping is now not limited to a specific time duration, and this has become an added advantage for the youth.

However, I have to admit that this trend is often unacceptable as it encourages a sense of consumerism among the youth. The results are the wastage of resources, more litter and lastly many youngsters become spendthrifts.

To conclude, it is clear that the main reason behind why the youth consider shopping as their favorite pass-time is because of the transformation occurred in the field of shopping. Despite encouraging consumerism, I think the trend is generally positive.
