There are various factors which affect the purchase of a product or service. For some, it is the quality and for others, it is the durability. However, a sizeable proportion of the customers consider cost of what they opt for as the cardinal factor, and I too fall in the same category.
The prime reason why I think the price of the product or service is the strongest factor which determines the customers’ preference is because of the fact that the worth of a purchase is usually determined on the basis of money. For example, a manufacturer has to cover all his expenses which he has to suffer from the point of product designing to its sale in the market. This includes the production, marketing and distribution cost. When the final product reaches the market, it is the customer who decides whether to buy it or not and the first thing he looks is at the price tag. It is then he looks for the other particulars of the product like ingredients and the satisfaction he might get from it.
When affordability is the primary factor which decides the preference of a product or service, there exist customers who would generally look at its quality and durability. Such people opt for only branded products and certified services, which they think would give them better satisfaction. However, I think their numbers are comparatively less among the population. There are also people who buy products just because they are shopaholics.
To conclude, even though there are people who consider other factors such as quality above the price of a product or service, it seems to me that cost is the most crucial factor for the majority.
