While a group of people opines that governmental funds should be spent on providing free health care, others feel it should be invested on education and culture. Both these are valid arguments, and hence a detailed discussion is needed before framing a logical conclusion.

Those who have the first opinion highlight that each and every citizen in a country has the fundamental right to stay healthy and it is the responsibility of a democratic government to avail it to them. They also think the modern healthcare facilities including diagnostic and surgical procedures are unaffordable to a major section of the society, and hence free healthcare is something which is much needed by them. Since health has a direct relationship with the productivity of a nation, a healthy community would contribute greatly to a country’s GDP, whereas a morbid-hit society would prove less-effective, they believe.

Those who have the opposite view focus on the point that many governments often fail to provide the most innovative methods of treatment to their citizens because of its expensiveness. Even the governments of affluent countries face financial liabilities if they are providing their citizens the most modern health care facilities. They believe that instead the money should be spent on educating the public regarding a healthy and peaceful life, and modernizing their culture. By doing this, in a long run, many diseases can be either prevented or cured easily, which would save a considerable amount of governments’ money which would have been wasted for treating a multitude of people.

After analysing both views in detail, I cannot say that governments should not provide free health care to their citizens. At the same time, I have to agree that money should be spent on education and culture as these are also crucial in the development of a nation.
