MODEL ANSWER:

There is a question whether the main reason behind the hike in the number of obese children in developed countries can be attributed to the increasing popularity of fast food outlets or it is the irresponsibility of parents. Both the arguments have their own gravity, and hence a detailed discussion is needed before framing a logical conclusion.

On the one hand, there are people who blame the increase in the fast food outlets in affluent countries for this condition. This is because they feel most of these sell unhealthy food, which can trigger obesity. For example, these outlets promote tasty foods such as hamburgers and pizzas, which are popular among the children. They argue that these food items are not only of less nutritional value, but also of poor quality.

On the other hand, there are people who think that the blame should go to the parents for this alarming situation. The reason why they think like this is that they believe good eating habits begin early in life, long before children start to visit fast food outlets. Parents play a crucial role in it and once a habit is established in a person, it is hard to modify that. Hence, they believe parents are to some extent responsible for this ill-healthy situation.

After analyzing both these views in detail, it is clear both the increasing popularity of fast food outlets and the negligence of parents in their children’s eating habits are responsible for this adverse situation. However, I feel parents should be more vigilant in their children’s eating habit to mitigate the issue.
