SAMPLE ANSWER:

Tremendous changes occurred in the field of reading when printed books are seen disappearing from markets owing to the popularity of e-books. This trend has both advantages and disadvantages, which are been discussed in the ensuing paragraphs.

Turning to the positive side of this increasing popularity of e-books, one should see that it gives a person instant reading material at a comparatively lower cost. For example, most people prefer e-reading to printed books because they are easily accessible on the internet and they find it comparatively cheap. The second advantage is the space. It is a fact that there should be enough room to accommodate the printed books, whereas e-books are readily available on a small device like a smartphone. This makes e-learning convenient. Lastly, the environment is benefitted when people switch to online reading.

By contrast, when printed books disappear, the real reading experience is lost. To make it clear, the exclusive experience of reading which the books give would not be easily acquired when a person reads e-books. The second disadvantage is the shrinking intellectual capacity of a reader. For example, when a person reads a book, he mostly covers all the pages and gets its summary as a whole. However, usually, people search for specific information on e-books, which gives less strain to their brains. Finally, the existence of establishments like libraries and printing houses would be under threat.

To conclude, the trend of rising popularity of e-books is expected to continue and there exist obvious merits and demerits for the same.
