Special days like ‘National children’s day’ and ‘National non- smoking day’ are being set up by various charities and organizations. They do this foreseeing many social positive outcomes and generally this evokes the same response.

There is no doubt that the fundamental intention behind this is to intensify the public awareness. They feel that the existing systems of awaking people on these socially significant matters are not strong enough to widen their reach. For example, even though a considerable amount is spent on campaigns against tobacco use, the rate of cancer patients due to tobacco use is on the higher side. Another factor behind this move is when a day is named like this, every year it is remembered and on top of it, it is publicized on the popular media like the TV and on the internet. Therefore they think this could prove more effective.

Turning to the effects, one can definitely say that the public has a progressive approach towards the move. To be precise, on these particular days, many events are being organized such as street plays, concerts and competitions, to name but a few. A notable participation is seen by the potential groups such as school and college students in such events, and this can be seen as a pertinent example for its popularity. As an exception, there are organizations which are formed with the aim of monetary gain, and they use this publicity for their own benefits.

To conclude, I feel that by naming days like this, these organizations have their prime objective to reach more people and they are mostly successful in doing so, as evidenced by the increasing popularity of their actions.
