Some people think that schools should select pupils according to their academic abilities. Others believe that it is better to have young people with different abilities educated together. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

It is widely debated whether enrollment to schools should be made after screening their abilities or it could be made randomly. Both arguments have their own significance and a detailed discussion is needed before framing a logical conclusion.

On the one side of the argument, there are people who recommend a group of students with high intellectual potentials enrolled in the class and they feel it is really advantageous. The effectiveness of the classes taken is the prime merit they point at. If classes are taken to a group of students of good cognitive standards, the time taken to convey the message can be minimized, which in turn can reduce the effort taken by the teacher. They also highlight the uniformity of studies and the higher likeliness of success. To be precise, such a group thinks and works out in a similar way and their level of achievement would be more likely to be on the higher side. This would also prove beneficial to many schools’ goodwill.

On the other side of the argument, a section of people believes a random selection of students is a wiser move. They focus on the advantage of co-operation and sharing. They see a class of diversity as a miniature form of the society and this can be very effective in bringing up a good citizen with qualities of understanding each other and molding a mind of co-operation. In addition, they feel when students of diverse abilities are grouped together in a classroom; they would get diverse thoughts and problem-solving abilities, which are integral qualities in a person’s life. This would also help improve the work-efficiency of teachers as they train themselves in a challenging situation.

After analyzing both these views in detail, though the former view appears to be an acceptable one, the latter has a wider range of success not only for the students, but also for the teachers.
