Owing to a great deal of health problems and deaths smoking causes across the world today, its ban along with the use of tobacco products is highly recommended. I too tend to agree to the notion, despite some practical challenges governments are expected to face.

The main reason why I think a ban on such products becomes necessary is owing to the ineffectiveness of the existing ways of mitigating the crises caused by cigarette smoking and the use of tobacco products. To be precise, numerous people loss their productivity and are seen spending huge sums of money in the treatment of diseases like obstructive lung diseases and cancer. Acknowledging this, many governments and voluntary organizations initiated extensive campaigns and awareness programs against the menace of smoking and tobacco use. However, all these have made a very insignificant impact among the people. Statistics shows the numbers of people who are either becoming unhealthy or becoming terminally ill because of smoking are still rising. At this point, it is the duty of a responsible government to address the crisis at the earliest, and the best choice tangible before them is imposing a ban on such products.

However, it does not appear too easy for any government to implement a ban on such products. The first challenge ahead of them is the risk of losing huge revenue from the sales of such products. The second is the crisis of employment loss of a vast number of people who work in the related industries. Last but not least, the unavailability of cigarettes would lead to some serious health issues.

To conclude, even though there are some hurdles before governments to make the ban practical, I feel the fight against this social menace would be effective only with a complete ban on tobacco products.
