Some people believe that if a police officer carries guns, it can encourage a higher level of violence. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is argued that if the police officers are armed with guns, it can promote violence. Even though there are situations in which this is absolutely true, I tend to believe the opposite.
The primary reason why I hesitate to align to the viewpoint is because of the professionalism these officers have. To be precise, most police officers have undergone systematic training in their respective police academies prior to their passing out parade. They are trained by experts regarding the proper use of guns and how to handle those in critical situations. Therefore, except in rare cases, these officers are least likely to spark violence, as they know better than any security force how to curb it in a tactical way.
The second reason why I prefer the officers should carry guns is because it ensures the law and order. To be clearer, officers with guns reflect the strength of the legal system in a society, and give a passive message to the wrongdoers that there are least occasions of security lapses. This sense of fear can decline the rate of crimes in any society, and ensures its safety and security.
However, there are situations in which officers with guns can encourage higher level of violence. When the security is tight, those who have the intension of committing crimes would be more prepared, and their ways of action would become unpredictable to the police. In such situations, police officers have to open fire in order to prevent further damage.
To conclude, it is clear that there are instances when violence can be sparked when police officers carry guns. However, because of their professional approach, I assume, in most cases, this ensures the safety and security of the society.
