MODEL ANSWER:

Gender equality in employment sectors such as security and defense has been the topic of heated debate. While some urge for equality in these sectors, others believe that female inclusion in these sectors is inappropriate. Both arguments are topical in nature, and hence a critical assessment is needed before framing a logical conclusion.

On the one hand, the latter group often holds the opinion that these jobs (Police or military) are extremely physically demanding. They believe so because of the fact that women generally cannot compete with their male counterparts in case of physical fitness. Engaging in strenuous activities can be exhausting even for men, and in extreme work situations, women might suffer the worst. For example, in military service, soldiers are most likely to struggle when they are forced to move around carrying heavy machinery. Foreseeing such adverse circumstances many advocate that women are not the best choices in these fields.

On the other hand, those who support female applicants in these types of professions see no gender bias as modern technology can solve the physical limitations to a greater extent. For example, there are much sophisticated artillery at war zones today, which can be handled easily. They also point at numerous tasks in police or military services which need intellectual potentials rather than physical fitness. Military intelligence, data transfer and Para- medical areas are good examples for this. Therefore, they believe that such discrimination should not close the doors for the female aspirants who seek these career areas.

After analyzing both views in detail, I think gender inequality cannot be encouraged in professions such as police and military. This remains true as long as all such job aspirants should meet the eligibility criteria.
