There exists a controversy on bearing the responsibility of children’s transportation to school. While some believe it lies with the state, others feel that it is the exclusive responsibility of parents. I think the latter’s view is more rational.

On the one hand, the reason why the former group thinks in such a way is because of the immense benefits the state is expected to receive from an educated community. To be clearer, many governments promote free education and all the accessory supports to students in view of creating a productive population in future, from which it can get long-run economic benefits in future. For example, a child, when he grows up and becomes an earning individual, he is likely to spend more towards the state by means of tax and fines, than towards his parents’ welfare.

On the other hand, the latter group feel that safety and security of the school children should be given more priority than a free-travel. To be clearer, they point out at an increasing rate of many unfortunate incidents like kidnapping, child abuse and rape. Most of these incidents happen when children are not properly transported to and from their schools. Parents should assume the sole responsibility of transporting their own children to schools, and this is the best solution for avoiding such situations. This also develops a better trust and strengthens the bond between the children and their parents, which are much essential in the modern world.

To conclude, there is no doubt that the state has the responsibility of transporting children to school, owing to the benefits it is anticipated to get. However, I think, in a world of uncertainty, one should focus more on the safety of the child, and this makes parents more responsible in doing so.
