The charts provide information on the top ten Australian migrants based on their origin in 2020 is compared with that of 2003.

Overall, despite wide variations in the immigration pattern, Australia welcomed more immigrants in 2020.

As per the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the English remained at the top in both years in case of the total number of immigrants. In 2003, there were 922,094 English immigrants, which grew steadily to 980,940 in 2020. Next to England, in 2003, the next three positions were held by New Zealand, Italy and China, with 412,682, 223,648 and 200,058 migrants respectively. Other nations which marked their entry into the top ten list after China were Vietnam, Scotland, Greece, Philippines, India and Germany and their migrant population ranged between 121,468 and 171,325.

The picture turned dramatically in 2020, when India pushed New Zealand to the fourth position, to occupy the second place. From just 128,920 immigrants in 2002, the gross number of Indian immigrants grew to 718,893. The number of Chinese immigrants multiplied over three times to hit 615,634. The migration of Kiwis also grew by 171,602 in 2020. The new entries to the top ten list were South Africa, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, in which the Sri Lankan immigrant number stood at the bottom with 141,581.
