The illustration provides information on how solar panels can be used for providing electricity in a domestic set up.

Overall, the picture depicts the conversion, control, distribution, and storage of solar energy in five simple steps.

In the first stage, solar energy, which is trapped by the solar panels, is converted to DC current. For this, these panels are placed towards the Sun, in order to get the maximum exposure of sunlight. The second major role is played by the inverter, which transforms DC current to AC current. Apart from that, it controls the electricity and its generation.

The third main stage, that is the supply of electricity to the home, is done by the electric panel. There might be instances when excess electricity is generated, and the utility meter, which is placed proximal to the inverter, transfers this surplus power to the grid. Conversely, when the electricity usage exceeds the electricity production, the utility grid supplies electricity to the home.
