The diagram below shows the process of recycling plastic bottles.

Various steps involved in the recycling process of plastic are sequenced in the given picture.

Overall, the process involves nine steps, starting from the collection of bottles for recycling to the manufacturing of new plastic products.

In the first step, used plastic bottles are collected in trash bins placed in different locations. Once these bins are full, they are transferred to the recycling centre via trucks. At the recycling centre, the collected bottles are segregated manually. Bottles which can be recycled are sent to the compressing unit, whereas those cannot be recycled are disposed.

At the compressing unit, the bottles are compressed to large blocks which are in the shape of cubes. These cubes are broken to smaller pieces in a crusher, and are allowed to fall in a large container, where the pieces are washed to remove any impurities. These are then drained and passed through a machine, which converts it to small plastic pellets. In the next step, these pellets are heated to make the raw materials for the manufacturing of finished plastic goods like containers, bottles, tee-shirts and carry-bags.
