Despite the fact that car manufacturing and use affect the environment adversely, more people become car-customers each year. There are two major reasons for this, and to cut down the popularity of cars is not an easy task in near future.

The first reason behind the increasing popularity of cars in spite of the environmental issues their use can cause appears to be the difficulty of people in finding a better alternative to it. To be precise, since cars started serving humans, their customers have been availing three major specific advantages: privacy, comfort and convenience. People who have once used a car would hardly find all these three in any other forms of transport on roads.

Another factor behind its soaring popularity is the constant efforts of car manufacturers to increase the customer-satisfaction by innovative ways. To be clearer, the advent of new manufacturing companies with innovations and advanced marketing strategies make the car manufacturing units always busy, and it has not yet shown a slow-down even during tough economic times.

Bringing down the popularity of cars appears to be hardly a motive of any governments. Even after many governments have imposed luxury taxes on the new purchase of cars, the sales has not dwindled. Some governments have banned the use of older cars on roads, pointing out atmospheric pollution. Believe it or not, this has become another factor for the increase in the car sales. Therefore, it can be said at present, there are no feasible solutions to fade the popularity of cars.

To conclude, it is clear that amidst of diverse measures taken by the authorities, the sale and use of cars are on the rise. This is mainly because of their unique features. Unless and until a better alternative is found, cars would continue to be an environmental threat.
