Overall, it is clear that when the urban and suburban population grew tremendously during the given period, the rural population shrank in an alarming manner.
In 1910, most people in Turkey had their dwellings in rural areas. This accounted for nearly 60% of the country’s total inhabitants. While 30% lived in the city, just about a tenth of the gross population had their accommodation in the suburban areas.
By 1950, both urban and suburban population rose by 10%, to hold two fifth and one fifth of the total share. The rural population, on the others side, fell by 20%.
The proportion of people lived in urban and suburban areas went up further and hit 60 and 30 respectively in 2010.The shrinkage of rural population was more tangible in the year 2010, when only 10% of Turks preferred to live in villages. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
