MODEL ANSWER:

People of the ultra-modern era face some serious challenges. Deciding on when are where to compete or to co-operate is one among such issues. I think, the extremely different situation, in which the people live today, compared to the bygone years forces them to be more aggressive in nature than to be co-operative.

In the past, when the people led an agrarian life; they usually had enough time, resources and opportunities to excel in their respective fields. For instance, they hardly had a hectic schedule at work or at study. They had not to struggle extremely hard to find resources to keep their life going. In fact, they were satisfied with what they had. As the population was thin, opportunities were waiting for them and many of them made use of these to the fullest. Therefore, they appeared to be more co-operative than competitive.

Nevertheless, the post-industrialized era, with an advanced technological explosion, has made unprecedented changes in every aspect of human. For instance, in almost all economic, social and personal situations, men have got their nerves tighter than ever before. The unparalleled changes in the standard of living have kept success miles away from the modern man and naturally this has made him self- centered. He has found the success he made by competing far better than co-operating and has also found some sorts of pleasure in competing.

I need to admit the fact that human beings, as social animals, need to co-operate more by socializing and helping each other in many situations such as natural calamities. However, today’s people are less interested in such activities as they find satisfaction in some other areas.

To conclude, howbeit co-operation is a much needed quality today, and each individual is aware of its value, the existing situation persuades him to prefer competition.
