A local college is having an international day. You want to speak to students about your country from different cultures. Write a letter to the college head. In the letter, you should:

– tell him/her about the topics you are going to talk about

-why would they be of interest to the students

– ask for any arrangements that you need.

STUDENT RESPONSE 1: 

Dear Mr James Jacob,

 I am writing to intimate that I would like to deliver a speech on one specific culture practised in our country to the students on behalf of international day celebration.

Since our country has a vast diversity and culture, I would like to focus particularly on joint-family culture.

In earlier times, the big-family culture was common, but nowadays there has been a decline in this practice. So, I would like to educate students the value of having joint-family culture because such practices are only found in our country and has many advantages. When students leave overseas for their higher studies and settle down there, they must follow their nation’s culture as well.

I would like to do a PowerPoint presentation on this topic focusing on the advantages and disadvantages and other relevant topics. So, I would like to have a projector and a cordless mike for my presentation.

STUDENT RESPONSE 2:

Dear Mr Peter,

I am writing this letter to inform regarding the topic for elocution, which is going to be delivered on the International Day on 25th of this month.

I would like to talk about the multitude and diverse culture of my country, especially, the origin of languages. Then, I would like to introduce the history behind some of our great monuments: the Taj Mahal, the Qutub Minar and Ajanta Caves.

I believe that these topics will be interesting and beneficial to students, as they get to know more details about their country’s history and culture. Apart from that, our final year students have an assignment related this topic. So, they will be acquiring more ideas to finish their assignment more effectively.

I also would like to ask permission to get keys for the auditorium for making arrangements for the speech. I would also like to remind you to approve the request for using college’s laptop and projector to present slide show.
