It is often argued that the hesitation made by private universities to admit students from weaker economic sections is unjustifiable as everyone has the right to get educated. At this juncture, some demand free university education, to which I can hardly agree with.

The primary reason behind my view is because the expense of university education is higher when compared to the lower levels of education. To be clearer, finding funding in these areas creates huge economic liabilities on the governments, and even the most developed countries perceive it as an unwise idea. Instead, if eligible candidates are identified from under-privileged sections on the basis of their aptitude and performance, they can be provided education at universities either free or at subsidized rates.

Another reason why I find it difficult to align to the argument is that provided that university education is made free for everyone, it is more likely to lose its value. Most societies look at the graduates and post-graduates among them with dignity and pride. The idea of free university education would make them think that anyone can become a graduate. Students who graduate thus too feel the same.

I need to admit that the fee of some specialized courses in universities is exorbitant, such as in the case of medicine and space research, and this would totally block the entry of students from poor financial backgrounds. However, the problem can be solved to a fair extent when such eligible candidates are sponsored either volunteers or multi-national businesses, who can hire their services later.

To conclude, even though the idea of free university education for all appears to be good, it lacks practicality in the modern education system. Hence, other ways should be sorted out to solve the issue of restricted entry of intelligent students from weaker financial backgrounds to private universities.
