MODEL ANSWER:

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to express my sincere gratitude for selecting me for the post which I applied for in your prestigious company.

The very next day after the formal in- person interview, which was held on 20th of this month, I received a call from your HR executive, asking me to join the firm by the beginning of next month. Firstly I should admit that I am extremely delighted with the offer as I have been longing for this post since I completed my studies. However, my brother’s graduation, which is scheduled in Manchester next week make it almost impossible for me to join before the present deadline.

It would be appreciated if you could understand my problem and allow me an extension in the date of joining, preferably by the third week of next month.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully
Smith
