It is argued that the state is responsible for mitigating the issue of childhood obesity and related ailments. Even though it can play a crucial role in solving this, I believe other factors such as parental guidance and media can play a more decisive role.

To begin, it is the governmental responsibility to create a healthy population as it is an asset of a country. Many governments have identified that the efforts for making this happen should be done as early as possible, as they find numerous cases of life-style diseases like obesity and diabetes among their younger population, especially among children. Therefore, the state’s involvement in deciding the diet availability and exercise pattern of children becomes quite rational. The state also can conduct awareness programmes among children against the consequences of being overweight and unhealthy.

However, one should understand that the state has some limitations in eradicating such health issues among children. It would become more effective with the involvement of some other external factors. The biggest positive impact can be made by the parents, as they can give effective advices on the child’s life-style. For example, none other than parents can easily decide what food is the best for their children, and how this can be given to them in order to maintain their health.

Another decisive role is there for the media. To be precise, media should accept the social responsibility not to promote the sales of junk foods through persuasive adverts, which could easily reach children. Instead media should promote awareness about healthy living among children.

To conclude, it is clear that the state has its own responsibility to curb the incidents of lifestyle diseases. However, one should understand parents and advertising companies are more responsible in making this happen.
