Pointing at the concentration of better health and educational facilities in urban centres, some strongly suggest new doctors and teachers to initiate their career at rural centres, and continue there for a few years. However, others criticize such a strong recommendation by highlighting the individual independence to choose their place of work. Both arguments are pivotal in nature, and so a detailed discussion is needed before arriving at a logical conclusion.

The primary reason behind the former group’s suggestion is because if the new teachers and doctors work in rural areas for a short period, it would be a pro-active step to uplift the health and educational status of the people there, which are currently not up to the standards. These professionals too would get a less-stressful work atmosphere, and this seems to be an ideal platform on which they can build their career. The experience they get from these places would be unique and invaluable, and this would greatly benefit their career growth in future.

On the other hand, others strongly criticize this recommendation by stating that it hinders the personal freedom of these professionals to choose where to work and how to work. To be precise, every new professional, whether a doctor or a teacher,  would like to start their career in a challenging situation, which they can hardly expect in a rural environment. In a rural atmosphere, these professionals have to compromise a good salary scale too.

After analyzing both these views in detail, even though rural areas need the services of teachers and doctors, I feel, instead of inexperienced ones, the rural population needs the services of experts. This can be met when such professionals are offered a handsome salary, and it is not a big challenge for any government as their requirements are comparatively lower than in cities.
