Individual greed and selfishness have been the basis of the modern society. Some people think that we must return to the older and more traditional of respect for the family and the local community in order to create a better world to live in. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is suggested that, in order to live a better life, the modern society has to abandon its greed and selfishness, and adopt the traditional way of life. I firmly believe that such a life is the need of the current generation, but this return has a lot of impracticalities in the existing scenario.

The first hurdle in reaching back to the life-style of the older generation is the lack of time. To be clearer, people are busy with their own activities and they hardly find enough time to communicate in person. For example, a student is seen engaged in his academic activities, both at school and home, as he has broader syllabi than that in the past. Similarly, most adult members in the family would be working through out the day. This results in ineffective communication, both in the family and the community.

The second obstacle which I find is the changing attitude towards life. To be precise, as technology advanced, people started living a life in accordance with it, and this is entirely different from the traditional way of life, which gave respect and dignity to the family and the society. The fact is that it would be utterly difficult for them to sacrifice the comfort and convenience of the present day, and adopt a life which was there in the past.

I have to admit that the traditional way of life such as respect, love; care and generosity are very much needed in the modern society, in which people die for money and other personal favours. However, I feel this is possible only in isolated or remote societies today.

To conclude, though there are numerous benefits when a person adopts the traditional way of life, it is clear that in the present situation, this is hardly possible.
