To what extent do the advantages of information technology outweigh the disadvantages?

 The influence of information technology is becoming more evident in the lives of the people than ever before. Whether it is used at home, leisure or at work, it appears to be more advantageous. However, it has some serious drawbacks, which are equally significant.

 Turning to the advantages of information technology at home, it connects the members of the family to the outer world. This happens through social media applications and live calls. Instant information transfer via TV and internet is another advantage to the family. In case of leisure, a person can access any form of entertainment on his gadget, whether it is a smartphone or computer, and share it to his friends or relatives. At work, it assists in effective team work and co-ordination. On a whole, information technology has now become a basic aspect of human life.

 On the darker side, it poses some serious threats to privacy and security. Whether at home, leisure or at work, this technology is infamous for security breach. For example, hacking personal and official information is so common these days. Malware programmes are fed into some popular entertainment programmes and this can harm the device which runs the programme. Incidents of blackmailing and emotional abuse are also common these days. Last but not least, addiction to certain social media applications has become a very serious concern.

 To conclude, one can undoubtedly say that the influence of information technology in human life is huge, and it has many unexplored potentials. However, as a coin has two sides, it also has some significant drawbacks, which can be evaded only by its rational use.
