International travel is becoming cheaper and countries are opening their doors to more and more tourists. Do the advantages of increased tourists outweigh the disadvantages?

REPORTED ON 04 DECEMBER, 2021 ACADEMIC TASK 2

Of late, tourism is becoming one of the industries which are exhibiting an accelerated growth. Undoubtedly, this can be attributed to the favourable environment which is created by the authorities. However, I hardly feel this has only positive aspects.

One of the tangible advantages of tourism promotion is to those who travel, as it creates more opportunities to them to explore different parts of the world. Provisions like visa on arrival have become a great success, and these have brought more tourists to those countries which promote tourism. Cheaper international travel packages have also attracted a great number of tourists.

Not only are the tourists benefitted by the newer approach of countries towards tourism industry, but also the economies of the respective nations. To be precise, tourists brings a lot of revenue to such countries by means of commercial activities. For example, the local businesses would see a boom when more tourists arrive in specific seasons. For many countries, the industry is the backbone of their economies. It also paves the way for infrastructural developments and cultural exchanges.

It is to be admitted that more tourists often creates some sorts of issues. One such issue is the increased risk of diseases. It is to be noted that many countries have imposed travel ban during the pandemic: Covid-19. Conflicts between the locals and the visitors, smuggling and drug peddling, and littering issues are also not so rare. However, most countries can effectively manage such situations.

To conclude, it is clear tourism industry receives much significance these days owing to its immense opportunities. However, one should not belittle its darker side.
