It has become easier and more affordable for people to travel to other countries. Do you think it is a positive or a negative development?

REPORTED ON 24 SEPTEMBER, 2022 (AFTERNOON SESSION)

There is no doubt that modern technology has made it easier for people to travel abroad at an affordable rate. I think it has more positive effects on both the people who travel and the host country which receives them.

The most tangible benefit of this is an opportunity to experience the cultural and tradition of a foreign country in person. To be precise, in the past, people only had heard about the living conditions of people who resided far away from them. As technology advanced, they could see it on visual media, like on TV and on computer. However, with further advancements in technology, transportation and logistics became easier and much economical. This made it possible for even common people to explore and experience the lifestyle of people who are very dissimilar to them.

In case of the county which receives international tourists, the most significant is the strong source of revenue. To be clearer, when a person visits another country, it is quite natural that he spends a considerable amount of money on expenses like visa, shopping and other entertainment activities. For example, there are countries which rely heavily on the tourism industry and the revenue from this channel is the backbone of their economy.

However, international travel has also raised some concerns of cultural dilution and language extinction. Increasing crime such as smuggling, human trafficking are also some issues which are related to this.

To conclude, despite some concerns, which can be addressed effectively, the popularity of international travel brings an overall boost to the human race.
