More and more organizations, both public and private, encourage their employees to wear uniforms. There are specific jobs which I think uniforms are mandatory. However, wearing a uniform does not always appear advantageous for many.
In today’s world, uniforms are seen compulsory in professions related to defense and law-maintenance. These professionals are required to wear uniform as a part of discipline and uniformity. For example, police and the military have to wear uniforms as a part of set professional norms. A similar situation is seen in professions such as health and transport. The next type of employees who requires a uniform is from high-risk sectors, where safety is a primary concern. Members of fire and rescue team or disaster control team are to be seen as the pertinent examples of this kind. Finally, private entrepreneurships today encourage wearing uniforms in their companies to nurture the qualities of teamwork and competition among the employees with an objective of better productivity.
Turning to the drawbacks of wearing a uniform, the worst complaint which may arise from an employee is the lesser comfort. People feel comfort in different attires. While some prefer cotton, others prefer polyester, and a uniform does not compromise these diversities. The second issue is the effort and care to maintain the uniform neat and tidy, which on the other hand may result in a lesser professional look.
To conclude, wearing uniforms is becoming an essential part of many professions which have higher professional standards. However, it is not warmly accepted by everyone in the society owing to some drawbacks.
