Undoubtedly, the popularity of fast food is one of the prominent reasons of overweight among the modern population. At this juncture, a hike the price of these food items is highly recommended. However, I feel it is less practical and the reasons for the same are explained in the following paragraphs.

The first reason for my disapproval to the suggestion is because of the fact that there are multiple reasons for a person to become obese, and faulty food habit is just one among those. To be precise, factors like sedentary lifestyle, increased anxiety levels and hormonal imbalances too make a sizeable proportion of people obese these days. Another reason is that not all overweight population is having these fattening foods regularly, and a hike in its price is least likely to be bothered by them.

In addition to the aforementioned reasons, there are a sizeable proportion of people who are addicted to these fattening foods. Even if there is a price hike of 100%, these people would buy it. Last but not least, one needs to understand that the fast food chains are powerful, and has strong social and political influences. There is no doubt that they would make sure that the price hike would hardly affect them.

I have to admit that the price hike would have a negative impact on the sales of these food items. However, I feel that the multinational fast food giants can easily stabilize the situation.

To conclude, though increasing the price of fast food appears to be a progressive step towards bringing down the rate of overweight population, I feel it lacks practicality.
