It is common to see that the urban population worldwide is swelling constantly, which has resulted in the unparalleled growth of major cities. This growth very often attributes to pollution and overcrowding, which is now posing as key threats to the quality of life there. The main reason for this development and ways to solve its undesired effects are discussed in this essay.

The most important reason which is assumed to have causing this is that urban centres are centres of economic activities. Unlike the past, people value money the most nowadays, and the desire to obtain it the maximum is a dream of every modern man. Considering this as a fact, most people try to concentrate their activities in the cities. In other words, when these urban centres open the doors for them with a vast number of opportunities, they would magnetize more people to their proximity, and eventually, these areas develop tremendously. Whatever the activities may be, people are almost sure that they can sustain a better life in cities than in the countryside.

It is a fact that most major cities are suffocated with over-population and declining quality of life. These critical issues can be solved by developing suburban cities around the main city. These satellite towns would facilitate the population who are depending heavily on the core cities for diverse needs like shopping, education and work. This would provide room for the growing number of people, and there would be an improvement in the quality of life and less environmental problems.

To conclude, the key reason why cities grow is because of the economic thirst of people, and the issues caused by over-urbanisation can be mitigated by developing satellite towns.
