News reporting is more often criticized these days as at many instances news is seen fabricated based on vested interests. When it comes to the main function of a newspaper, it is the transfer of absolute truth to its readers.

Opposite to the general concept that newspapers are the only medium of transferring genuine news, today, many controversial issues appear on the main pages of the popular newspapers. I believe the root cause of this is just because of either manipulated reporting or editing. In most cases, the second is the reason, as the editors are instructed to view the report in the same angle of interest of the publishing company. This results in subjective reporting, in which the real fact is diluted for selfish reasons. Another fact is that the trusted sources of news by international newspapers are often influenced by power and politics. Therefore, the current situation least favours honest transfer of news.

Turning to the main functions of the newspaper, despite some minor changes, the guidelines remain almost the same as it was in the beginning. Focusing on social harmony, welfare and security, newspapers are intended to be edited before they are being published. It should be objective rather than subjective in case of reporting a piece of news, especially when it deals with a sensitive issue. It should also abstain from reporting news which interferes with national security. Overall, amidst of a range of freedom it enjoys, the ultimate function of the newspaper is to maintain its integrity based on these set guidelines.

To conclude, it is almost clear that most circulated news today is fabricated to different levels, and I think the main function of a newspaper is just the opposite.
