Despite its invaluable contributions, internet has been under criticism for many reasons. One such criticism is its adverse effects on the intellectual skills of a person. I am not of the opinion that it worsens these skills, but I have to admit that it does not make it grow further after a particular stage.

The predominant reason why I cannot completely agree to the statement is because of the fact that many are getting a great sort of assistance from the internet to acquire a range of skills and knowledge. To be precise, internet provides competent service to nurture the critical thinking skills by availing its users with a variety of live games and puzzles. For example, a person at one end of the world can share his thoughts and intellectual skills to another who is in the farthest end. Similarly, enormous opportunities are provided on the net to acquire newer skills, which can enhance the memory and cognitive abilities of a person. Therefore, one cannot say it worsens a person’s higher mental abilities.

However, most people are seen not using the internet in a proper way. Instead of solving complex problems, these days people are seen heavily depended on this virtual platform even for small calculations. This complete dependency is to be perceived as a dangerous situation, which arrests the intellectual growth of a person after a saturation point. For instance, many people today can hardly recall important data including personal passwords. Likewise, a considerable proportion of people cannot carryout intellectual works without the assistance of the internet. Yet, I believe internet cannot be completely blamed for this situation, as its proper use definitely fetches positive results.

To conclude, though it is true that the excess dependency on internet slows down the cognitive abilities of a person, I hardly believe that it worsens these skills.
