It is often argued that the rise in the social problems caused by young people can be directly related to their parents who spend lesser time with them than at work. Accepting this as one among the causes, I feel there are other serious issues which trigger the issue.

The most prominent reason which I think is either directly or indirectly dragging the young generation towards involvement in social problems is the change in the lifestyle of modern man. Unlike the past, today’s children are brought up in nuclear family set ups, where there is lesser elderly supervision when compared to a joint family set up. Owing to this factor, many children are confined to couches, playing video games on their smartphones or watching TV rather than playing with friends outdoors. These factors trigger stress, and when it bursts out, they would find themselves involved in some socially unacceptable activities.

The second factor which misleads the young generation is the technology. To be precise, many advanced communication devices like computers and smartphones open the doors of deception to the young population. Over-exposure to these technologies slowly persuades them to get indulged in crimes, especially in the cyber world. Peer pressure is another serious factor which makes the youth anti-socials. Many chronic drug abusers and smugglers had revealed the fact that they were accidentally into the business due to the influence of bad peers.

I admit that lack of parental attention, which is usually caused due to hectic work schedule, is a key reason for delinquencies. However, I feel the influence of the aforementioned factors is greater.

To conclude, it is clear that lack of parental attention due to work pressure is one of the cardinal reasons of social problems among the youth. However, one needs to accept the existence of more serious challenges which need to be addressed with high priority.
