Management of money is one of the most vital life skills a person should learn. Admitting the fact that it is crucial to both secondary and higher secondary students, I would suggest that it would provide better benefits when learned at an earlier age.

It is generally believed that students at this age are able to handle money matters. To be precise, they start learning doing minor to moderate transactions with or without supervision. At this stage of economic stagnation, if they are not aware of wise spending, imminent economic crises evolve and this eclipses a student’s creative saving skill. Therefore, it is quite essential for them to procure this pivotal life skill so as to keep themselves away from potential financial disasters in future.

Apart from this, students at this age should be aware of the hardships of saving a single penny, in a situation which persuades them to become ‘spendthrifts’. For example, the influence of technology in advertisements attracts a plethora of frivolous purchases and this happens especially among the younger age groups. Hence, to mitigate such undesired trends, both secondary and higher secondary students are needed to be taught money management techniques.
While supporting this view to the fullest, I would suggest that this particular skill should be taught at an earlier age to make students better ‘money savers’. I think this is particularly true in the current situation, in which financial transactions are getting digitized. For example applications such as Google Pay are becoming increasingly popular even in the developing countries. So, I suggest money management should be taught much earlier than previously thought.

To conclude, I attest that secondary and higher secondary period is the appropriate age of learning to manage money. However, the changing economic situations may compel the students to learn it earlier.
