As the needs of the modern man are multiplying , the roles of fathers and mothers in a family differ . Though it appears to be acceptable for many, I think, in a long run, it has some serious drawbacks.

From the time immemorial, fathers used to earn the livelihood for their family and mothers used to bear and rear up their children. However , the economic situations have changed, and most families today feel financial pressure. To meet this increasing demand many modern mothers take up employment and they are often substituted by their male counterparts. This has helped them to make their family financially sound and they started gaining social dignity. In several cases this substitution is a huge success and this is the reason many think this is a positive development.

By contrast, the performance of parents with changing roles is often questioned , because the incidents of neglect and child abuse are reported quite often. For example, men usually have less patience and they often lose their temper while looking after their children. The care and intimacy of a mother towards her child is not exactly seen at the same proportion in the case of fathers and here, both the physical and mental development of the child are compromised to an extent. For instance, a recent study on a group of juvenile delinquents revealed that most of them had less time spent with their mothers as these mothers were the sole earning members of their families.

To conclude, though there are visible positive outcomes when the roles of fathers and mothers change, I think, considering the development of child, it has more undesirable effects.
