There exists an argument whether the elderly people should live in special homes or with their own family members. Even though the decision of choosing between the options is difficult most often, I suggest the selection of the second option.
The reason why many recommend older people nursing homes is because they would get professional care and support. To be precise, the aged need constant medical attention and physical assistance, and this can be met in specially designed centers. They can be safe there and can carry out their daily activities with maximum possible independence. They would also get ample opportunities to socialize with their own peers, which would not be always possible in a family set-up. Special activities are also there in these centers, which not only keep them engaged but also create a feeling that they are productive still.
On the contrary, those who have the second view feel that it is totally unjustifiable to send these people away from the places where they actually want to live until their death. To explain it further, every individual feel hapless when they lose the company of people and things they love the most. Moreover, the freedom and privacy a person has in his own family is invaluable, and this is compromised when he is moved to special homes. Finally, most old age people want their own children and grandchildren to be near as they grow older, and this cannot be possible in special homes.
In my view, considering the fact that most services which are provided in aged homes are now available at the doorsteps of every home, it is always better to make the aged stay with their own family.
To conclude, though nursing homes can provide every needed service, I personally believe that not many elderly people would prefer those.
