Some governments are planning specific legislations to restrict adolescents in the public at night unless being accompanied by an adult. Owing to two significant advantages it can bring, I think it is a wise idea.

If adopted, the first advantage of this policy is that it can slow down the pace of growth of crime among the youngsters. To be precise, most crimes in which the teenagers are involved, such as street-fighting, drug abuse, bullying and assaulting girls happen at night. This happens when the situations are favourable for them. For example, there would be lax security during events which are held at night like DJ parties and the aggression levels of the adolescent participants are generally high during these hours.

Another positive side of this move is that it can reduce the number of teenage trouble-makers. To be clearer, there would be an elderly supervision for one to three teenagers, and these elders would be mostly closely related to the group members. Under their supervision, these adolescents are less likely to misbehave. When the number of teenagers is less, and situations to misbehave are limited, one can expect a very positive result.

I admit that this move questions the fundamental freedom of an individual. However, when we consider their vulnerability to crime at this stage, if they are outdoors at night, they should be strictly supervised. This could be better done by their guardians rather than by the security forces.

To conclude, despite criticisms regarding individual freedom, I believe, provided that this policy is implemented, that would be a landmark in reducing the crime rate among adolescents.

It is seen that the crime rate among adolescents is on the hike, and to address this, some governments have been considering framing specific legislations. One such initiative is to impose curfews, prohibiting their presence in public places without the companionship of any adult. I tend not to agree to this policy.

The primary reason behind my viewpoint is because it hinders the fundamental freedom of an individual. To be clearer, once a person crosses his childhood stage, he or she should be recognized as an individual, and they should enjoy almost all the right an adult enjoys. When such rights are limited by any means, the results tend to be undesirable. To explain it further, adolescents are agile, aggressive and often rebellious, and any restrictions such as night curfews are least likely be tolerated by them.

Another reason behind my objection is the practicability of this legislation. To be precise, it is not always possible to maintain the correct ratio of adults and teenagers on the streets at night. It is a fact that when most teenagers prefer to enjoy the night life, it is not the case among the adult population, as they have many other commitments. In addition, the presence of adults, especially from their own family puts a greater limitation on adolescents, who want to enjoy the night life to the fullest.

I admit the idea as an innovative one when it comes to bringing down the crime rate, as a sizeable proportion of teenagers who are hanging out at night are involved in some types of crime. However, when better options of law- enforcement are there, such as effective night patrols and surveillance cameras on high-risk areas of crime, I feel this policy is not recommended at present.

To conclude, though restrictions on teenagers by imposing night curfews would bring about some positive outcomes, I feel in the current situation, it is unwise to implement it as we have better alternatives.
