There have been changes in the way which people perceive sports. While some feel extreme sports should be banned, others feel it purely depends on individual choice. Both views have their own gravity, and hence a critical assessment is needed before framing a logical conclusion.

The fundamental reason why the former group argues that dangerous sports should be banned is because of the serious risks involved. To be precise, many such sports involve high levels of risk which range from fractures to loss of limbs, and rarely death. It is unpleasant to see young people, who are usually thought to become the pillars of their families, lying in bed haplessly. Any unforeseen accidents during these sports may ruin their hopes not only in the physical, but also in the psychological aspects.

As per the second viewpoint, it is unfair to intrude into a person’s individual choice and interests. To be clearer, sports have now transformed into something which is more than competition, and it is none other than the extreme sense of individual satisfaction. Many people, especially the youth try to attain this point of ecstasy by mixing risks in sports. For example, one who skydives, is most likely to increase the height when he attempts it the second time. Hence, it becomes an unjustified move when such sports are banned.

After analysing both views in detail, I oppose a ban on dangerous sports as it is interferes with a person’s power of choice. However, there are instances when authorities should set a limit on this freedom to prevent it turning fatal.
