Some people claim that public museums and art galleries will not be needed because people can see historical objects and works of art by using a computer. Do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

REPORTED ON 15 SEPTEMBER 2022, ACADEMIC MODULE

It is often argued that public museums and art galleries are no longer a necessity in this advanced world of technology, where people have the provision of knowing about art works and historical objects online. I feel the view has a greater relevance today.

The cardinal reason behind my view is because of the losing popularity of these places. To be clearer, people at present have not enough time to spend on knowing about the history and culture of their country. The reality is that they struggle to manage their time to maintain a quality life in this fast-moving world. This busy life is one of the main reasons why many museums and art galleries are left deserted today.

Another reason why I support the argument is because of the provision of seeing these on their computers or digital devices, by means of still or motion pictures with superior clarity and detailed explanations. This would save the information-seeker’s valuable time and money, which the modern man considers as the most valuable assets in this world. Lastly, one could say these places, which are usually located at the heart of cities can be used for other beneficial purposes like health care or education.

I admit the fact that there are people who argue for their existence claiming that these are places which can offer a unique experience, and a virtual experience cannot be as good as this.

To conclude, though museums and art galleries can offer their visitors a good experience, it has not proven as a necessity in this technologically advanced world.
