Some people claim that too much focus and resources have been spent to protect wild animals and birds. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

REPORTED ON 5 MARCH, 2022, CBT IELTS

It is claimed that the protection of wild animals and birds is over-focused, and a considerable proportion of the budget is being spent on the sector. I feel the opposite because many wild animals and birds are still at the verge of extinction.

The first reason behind my disapproval is because of the faster pace of decline of the wild population. To be precise, the natural habitat of these animals and birds are intruded very frequently nowadays for poaching, exploitation of wild resources and for illegal encroachments. If the wild life sector was given adequate importance proportionally with the vulnerability it faces at present, many of these undesired activities would have been checked.

Another reason behind my disagreement is because of the irrational human activities. To be clearer, the world is advancing faster than ever before, and this naturally has a huge impact in the environment. Pollution, land-filling, over exploitation of natural resources and widespread deforestation are just a few in the list. The consequences of these damages such as rising temperature and shortage of water are not only visible in cities and towns, but also in remote forests.

The huge disproportion of budget allocation in wild life when compared to other key sectors by the governments is the final reason behind my objection. It is a fact that when compared to sectors like manufacturing and service industries, the proportion of fund allocation to protect wild animals and birds is negligible.  The recent wild fires in the USA and Australia, which had destroyed hectares of forest, underlines this.

To conclude, it is clear that protection of wild life and the natural habitat of wild animals are still not given adequate importance even by the richest countries of the world.
