The number of cars in the cities is seen increasing and this has created many problems. Some people say that car traffic should be completely banned from the city centres. I,too support the ban, however with an exception.
Car travel, which is a popular mode of transport ensures privacy, security and convenience. However, when these automobiles move in the city, it often creates bottleneck congestion, especially during peak hours. For the car-commuters, it is difficult to park their vehicles very proximal to their place of destination in the city centre. Another issue is the speed restriction. Often they need to wait for hours to change the gear to a next level.
The next concern is the pollution : both air and noise. When compared to the public transport system, which can accommodate a considerable proportion of passengers, cars can carry a negligible proportion of commuters. Naturally, the increased number of cars in the city centres results in uncontrolled emission of toxic gases, which makes the air quality in the city hazardous. On top of it, the accelerated noise level in the cities is most often attributed to the increased car traffic in the city centres. For these reasons people can restrict the use of cars and can use the public transport system which has a good network in the cities. Alternatives such as bicycles are often seen eco-friendly.
However, I admit that there are emergency situations such as a medical emergency, in which cars should be permitted in the cities.
To conclude, albeit the restriction of cars at the city centres is the need of the hour, I think a reconsideration is necessary at the time of an emergency situation.
