Controversies exist on the right age to start formal education for a child. While some recommend it at a younger age, others feel the ideal age is seven. Both views are topical, but I feel, in the present situation, an early start is essential.

On the one hand, the reason why some urge for a delay in the commencement of formal education is because they feel children need some more time to gain emotional and intellectual maturity. To be precise, at the age of four or five, a child’s brain growth is much limited to grasp theoretical explanations in a classroom. At this age, children are playful, and need a clear guidance from their parents. To explain it further, this is the most appropriate time when parents have to spend some quality time with their children, and this actively boosts the emotional, intellectual and physical development of a child.

Others, on the other hand oppose the aforementioned argument by highlighting the necessity of equipping a child to survive in this world of ‘cut-throat competition’. They argue that the world is becoming more competitive than ever before, and it is hard for a person to lead a quality life without a reasonable monetary background. Schools and other centers of academics have to be more serious in their approach of delivering education to children, and one of the key feasible ways is to start the formal education at a younger age. They believe any delay would steal the future opportunities away from the child.

After analyzing both views in detail, though it is a necessity to allow some time for children to start their formal academic curriculum, I feel the present situation would hardly allow it.
