There exists a controversy regarding the most appropriate age in learning cooking, one of the essential life skills. While some say it can be learned at a younger age, others opine it should be learned at adulthood. Both arguments have their own great relevance, which are discussed in detail before framing a logical conclusion.

On the one hand, those who believe that adulthood is the better time to learn cooking focus on the perfection. To be precise, it is understood that cooking is complex these days, which involves a lot of procedures like  slicing, chopping, marinating, sautéing and deep-frying. In short, it has developed to a professional skill today, which requires a great deal of dedication and hard work, which makes it best suited for adults. Another factor they project is safety. For instance, modern cooking needs equipment like meat slicer, grinder and electric mixer, which need great care in handling, which can be perfected through expert guidance and experience.

On the other hand, those who recommend people to learn cooking at their younger age highlight that this is an essential skill which should be learned as early as possible. To be clearer, in today’s world, various circumstances arise for the young people when they have to depend on restaurants or other alternatives regularly for their food. Provided that cooking was taught at an early stage in life, they would have become self-reliant and self-confident. In addition, they would get enough time to become experienced and master the skill, which would be definitely an asset in future, especially for those who wish to take-up this as a full-time or a part-time profession.

After analysing both views in detail, though learning cooking is challenging for the young people, owing to the aspects of self-reliance and other benefits it can offer, I think it is better to be introduced earlier in a person’s life.
